Description
Named after a famous Alabama bootlegger, Clyde May first made its mark on the spirits scene with their peculiar Alabama-style whiskey. Following the successful release of their classic bourbon expression, the brand has decided to move to its more natural progression, that being good ol’ rye whiskey – a spirit that is slowly gaining popularity and one that holds a special place in May’s heart.
Each batch of Clyde May’s Straight Rye Whiskey is distilled in Indiana at MGP from a proprietary mash bill consisting of at least 51% rye before being aged for 3 years in charred American oak casks. These are then shipped to Alabama where they are brought to proof using fresh Alabama spring water and bottled to create a robust rye expression that works well whether enjoyed neat, on the rocks, or mixed.
Tasting Notes
Nose: This bronze-colored whiskey yields a youthful and pleasing nose of honeysuckle, salted caramel, nutmeg, and dried dill weed.
Palate: This is followed by a hefty palate of cereal notes, spicy rye, citrus, brown sugar, butterscotch candy, and savory herbal notes.
Finish: A medium and warming finish of cracked pepper and rye toast.
